Reality Spanish starting in September
Reality Spanish—not like any Spanish class you’ve ever taken before! Focuses on speaking & listening not reading & writing. Taught be total physical response, connects motions to words/phrases to aid recall. Being present in the class allows students to participate in active, multi-sensory learning. Don’t miss it! It’s fun! Here’s what students who took reality Spanish for healthcare at the hospital this May-July 2009 said about reality Spanish:
"I'm able to talk to Hispanic patients and make them feel more at ease with the whole surgery process. I don't see as much fear or apprehension in their eyes. I even get a few laughs at my attempts to speak Spanish! "
--Cheryl, surgical tech
"I feel much more comfortable. I actually had a problem with a patient having a conflict with an appointment and was able to resolve the issue--and I wasn't stressed out while handling it! :)"
--Sharon, RN
"I found a family in the hallway looking lost and was able to tell them where the lab was. I ran into a family looking for Marci (the interpreter) when she was off, and I was able to tell them she would be gone for a few days. I spoke to a little boy on the elevator in Spanish. He was really surprised, and responded."
--Donna, patient billing
"I have become less nervous when speaking with Hispanic patients. I can communicate better with Spanish-speaking patients using basic commands."
--Vicky, nursing support staff
