Purdue Extension Annual Dinner 2009
Letter to the Editor, The Times, Frankfort, IN
On January 22, 2009. I was honored to speak to about 100 people at the Annual Meeting of the Purdue Extension-Clinton County. We enjoyed a delicious pork dinner prepared by the Clinton County Pork Producers (what a great way to celebrate an Indiana product!). We talked about a 4-H program with 634 members as well as other high impact programs such as Mommy and Me, Pest and Nutrient Plans, wind energy, Extension Homemaker volunteer programs, grant writing and much more. In addition, we overviewed programs from the newest Extension program area, Economic and Community Development, offered through Purdue Extension’s Learning Network. Examples include Plaza Communitaria, entrepreneurship training and technology classes. It was obvious the crowd was extremely enthusiastic about the great work your Extension Service is delivering in all the program areas.
From my perspective, the Purdue Extension’s Learning Network of Clinton County is a model for our state. They continue to deliver outstanding Extension programs in important areas such as 4-H but also focus on issues important to the future of Frankfort and Clinton County such as the development of a well-trained and skilled work force and retraining programs for people out of work. In the current economy, these programs are crucial.
I am very proud of the great work Purdue Extension is doing in Clinton County. Thank you to all the volunteers and supporters that make this such a great community resource.
